Camp Pendleton is one of the largest military installations in the United States, stretching across over 125,000 acres of Southern California coastline immediately north of Oceanside. The base was established in 1942, with construction beginning in April of that year and President Franklin D. Roosevelt officially dedicating the facility on September 25, 1942. It was named after Major General Joseph Henry Pendleton, who had advocated for a West Coast Marine Corps training facility long before it was built.

The base serves as home to the I Marine Expeditionary Force and remains the primary training installation for Marines on the West Coast. Its scale reflects its mission: 2,626 buildings, over 500 miles of internal roads, and approximately 17 miles of coastline. Beyond the Marine Corps, the base trains personnel from all branches of the U.S. military, making it a hub for military readiness and preparedness for the entire region.

For many Oceanside families, proximity to Camp Pendleton is part of the fabric of their lives. Military families bring particular clarity to planning: deployment, moves, and service obligations make the stakes of financial protection unmistakable. Term life insurance for the years of active service, sized to cover dependents and obligations, is how many military families approach the question of what happens if the worst occurs.
